The county town,
on the Shannon.
Carrick-on-Shannon is small enough to walk across and big enough to have everything — which is a rarer combination than it sounds.

On the Dublin Connolly–Sligo InterCity line. Services morning to evening in both directions, roughly every two hours. Dublin in about 2 hours 17. The station is a ten-minute walk from the centre.
The N4
Dublin is around an hour and fifty by road. Sligo is half an hour the other way. This is the gateway to the Northwest and the Wild Atlantic Way.
Shops and services

The river
The Shannon runs through the middle of it — a marina, rowing, boat hire, and the Shannon Blueway for walking and cycling. Lough Key Forest Park is a short drive.
